We all need to escape sometimes. It helps us to relax, have fun and recharge our batteries. Our YMCA Weekend Escape program aims to do just this by providing weekend residential camps for adults with a disability.
Weekend Escape gives campers the opportunity to meet new people and fun enjoy indoor and outdoor activities. Families can also enjoy peace of mind as the camp is run - and expertly supported by - a dedicated team of trained volunteers.
Who is eligible?
Weekend Escapes is open to adults 16 years and over with an intellectual disability with low to medium support needs (they do not need personal care but may require prompting).
What does the camp involve?
Campers are encouraged to enjoy activities like the giant swing, going to the beach, and learning to fish. Our volunteers often pick fun themes for the camp like spring carnival, disco, and masquerade.
Who can come along?
Groups from Community Residential Units, Supported Residential Services or Adult Training and Support Services (with support staff) are invited to attend. Carers are welcomed, however, staff ratios are generally one staff member to six campers.
