The Y aims to provide opportunities to explore your full potential and develop your group's teamwork potential through the facilitation of unique outdoor adventure experiences. Our Adventure Program will add an exhilarating level of challenge to your stay with us, resulting in a powerful experience with lasting impact.

Camp Fire
- High Ropes Course
- This course provides individuals with a personal challenge, within a supportive group environment. With the encouragement of a partner, each participant will complete seven elevated and linked high ropes elements.
- Giant Swing
- Soar high or enjoy a gentle swing whilst capturing a bird's eye view across Port Phillip Bay. This is a challenge by choice activity where participants are encouraged to move outside their comfort zone. Each participant is harnessed and hauled into the air by their team. Once at the desired height, participants pull the release cord to send themselves swinging.
- Flying Fox
- This 120 metre aerial runway provides a thrilling end to the high ropes course or can be enjoyed as a separate activity in itself.
- Vertical Challenge
- This 18 metre high vertical obstacle course consists of five different elements designed to challenge the individual. Two participants climb side by side supporting each other through each challenging element, whilst belayed by the group on the ground. Activity focus is on teamwork and trust.
- Trust Challenge
- Beginning with a sequence of fun trust activities, the group will work toward the final challenge "The Leap of Faith". Stretching personal boundaries, individuals will have the option of completing this challenging high ropes element, with the encouragement and support of team-members.
- Low Ropes Course
- Participants will complete a series of 13 linked low rope elements. Spotting techniques are applied, as each pair supports one another in order to successfully complete the course
- Bike Education
- The Bike Education program is an adaptation of the Vic Roads Bike Education Program. It teaches participants bike handling skills through a series of activities and includes basic bike maintenance.
- Archery
- After a safety briefing and full instruction on the use of equipment, participants can use their skills to hit both stationery and moving targets using our quality recurve bows.
- Canoeing
- Introduction to the basic skills of canoeing and consolidation of these skills through a series of group games in canoes, building teamwork and good communication.
- Raft Building
- Groups are presented with ropes, logs, barrels and some basic tips and information on raft building. Participants must work together in teams to construct a raft which is launched on the water at the end of the activity. An ideal initiative activity for groups requiring additional challenges.
- Fishing
- Small groups will be taken on board Camp Manyung's fishing boat. Our fishing guide/Coxswain with 40 years experience will teach handling of a rod, baiting, and removal of fish from the hook. Participants will practice the environmental concept of "catch and release" and learn about responsible recreational fishing practices.
- Beach Education
- As qualified Surf Life Savers, Y instructors will teach the group about the beach environment and beach safety. Participants will also be fitted with wetsuits and taught the correct paddling skills for Boogie Boarding, Nipper Boarding and Surf Skiing, as per the Life Saving Victoria Nipper Program.
- Sea Kayaking
- In pairs, participants will work as a team to paddle and manoeuvre their "Sit on Top" sea kayak on a short journey along the Port Phillip Bay coastline. Participants will learn the basic skills of paddling, experience adventure and discover the natural beauty of the Bay during this activity.
- Snorkel Swimming
- Participants will explore marine life on a shallow reef at Sunnyside Beach. Snorkeling skills will be taught and all participants will be equipped with wetsuits, masks, snorkels, fins and kick boards.
- Marine Discovery Program
- Discover the diversity of marine organisms found in the intertidal zone at the rock pools of Sunnyside Beach. Students will enjoy touching and identifying marine life and learning about their role within the marine ecosystem.
- UHF Radios
- Participants work in teams to solve puzzles using UHF radios to communicate with the group leader who is providing the clues. Students will learn how to use a UHF radio, and develop communication skills.
- Manyung Community Projects
- Campers will contribute to community life at Camp Manyung by participating in a series of different tasks. For example; planting native trees, working in the vegetable garden or contributing to the production of "Manyung News" (a special camp newspaper for your school group).
Other Activity Options
We also provide a number of activities that can be lead by your own group, which include:
- Initiative/ Group Dynamics
- Various activities and challenges focusing on group dynamics, problem solving, communications, trust, leadership, planning and teamwork.
- Orienteering
- Choose from a range of orienteering courses set up around the campsite. Learn basic map and compass skills to navigate your way to find the markers.
- Kite Making
- Construct a kite using patterns and materials provided and then learn various aspects of kite flying. Kites can be kept and taken home (including hand lines).
- Beach Games
- A series of beach activities can be enjoyed on Sunnyside Beach e.g. beach cricket, beach volleyball, vortex, frisbee, flag races, punctured drums.
- Campfire Cooking
- Cook up some bush food treats.
Activities for Large Groups
- Beach Carnival
- Participants compete in small teams in this round robin involving Surf Life Saving team-oriented events on the sand e.g. beach volleyball, flag races, punctures drums, tug-of-war, obstacle course. An active, fun-filled end to any camp program. Water-based team events aimed to consolidate skills learnt during beach education activity can be included during warmer months.
- Team Scavenger Hunt
- In groups, participants must navigate their way around camp completing various tasks to earn points for their team. This activity requires individuals to practice the values of teamwork that have been developing during the camp.
- Coastal hike to Mornington
- Enjoy a 3km journey from Camp Manyung to Schnapper Point in Mornington. Throughout the walk students are exposed to a variety of environmental issues including the health of marine life and rubbish in the bay. Students are also given the opportunity to learn about coastal vegetation, cliff geology, marine life, bird life and aboriginal history through an ongoing senses activity en-route. The walk provides a relaxing opportunity to socially interact with others on the last day of camp.
Night Time Activities
- Possum Prowl
- Campers can discover a host of nocturnal animals that reside in the forest surrounding the camp.
- Concert
- A stage is set up in the recreation hall for the very popular concert on the last night.
- Disco
- Socialise and dance the night away in the recreation hall.
- Trivia Night
- Working in teams, groups must answer questions correctly to gain points. Special novelty activities can earn your team additional points.
- Campfire
- Enjoy a sing along, chat or toast marshmallows.
