Accommodation and Facilities


 Surrounded by mountain ash bushland, Howmans Gap Alpine Centre is able to accommodate groups from 1 to 174 people in comfortable, warm and relaxing lodgings. All our facilities are wheelchair accessible

Howmans Gap is the perfect alpine retreat for any group at any time of the year. We pride ourselves on personalising the programming and packages for each school dependant on budget and activities required.  


Main accommodation block

Our main accommodation block is an L-shaped building that sleeps up to 158 people and contains two identical halves separated conveniently by shared bathroom facilities.

It features:   

  • Four rooms with one set of bunk beds

  • Four rooms with three bunks and a single bed

  • 18 rooms with two bunks and a single bed

  • Two rooms with one bunk and one single bed

  • Two rooms with three bunks

  • Six individual bathrooms

  • Two main shared bathrooms

  • Laundry with washing machines

  • Drying room for snow gear and clothes

  • Ski/snowboard storage shed with waxing benches

Melaleuca Cottage

Melaleuca Cottage provides accommodation for smaller groups. Able to sleep up to eight people, it is often used by families seeking a break in the mountains or a winter escape.

Situated separately from the main facilities, the cottage is cosily nestled amongst mature melaleuca trees. The cottage features:

  • One bedroom with a queen size bed

  • One bedroom with one bunk

  • One bedroom with two bunks

  • One shared bathroom

  • Washing machine and dryer

Amenities include a lounge/dining area with a toasty wood fire, a DVD player and satellite TV, and a fully equipped kitchen with an adjoining outdoor eating area.

Linen is provided for the queen bed. You will need to bring sheets, pillowcases and towels/toiletries for the other rooms.

Cedar House

Like Melalueca Cottage, Cedar House offers accommodation for smaller groups and is ideal for group leaders or teachers.

The house can sleep up to eight people and is often rented by families seeking a bit of R&R in the mountains.

Cedar House has a comfortable open-plan fully equipped kitchen, dining and lounge area, with a small decking attached with magnificent view of the surrounding mountains. A TV and DVD are also provided for guests along with a full laundry room.

A shared bathroom supports four bedrooms. Linen is provided for the queen bed in the main bedroom. The three remaining rooms have one set of bunks – linen is required.


Howmans Gap Alpine Centre offers a premium range of outdoor, indoor and conference facilities designed to meet all your adventuring needs.

Indoor and outdoor facilities

We offer a range of outdoor leisure facilities ideal for getting active and exploring the great outdoors. You can make use of our basketball and beach volleyball court, grassed sports area, campfire and variety of nature trails.

Should you be faced with a rainy or heavy snow day, we have an excellent range of indoor facilities that provide great alternatives for all types of groups including table tennis, air hockey, poly pong and our pool table.

Conference facilities

With stunning views of the mountains and a relaxing atmosphere to boot, Howmans Gap Alpine Centre is an ideal location for short meetings and longer conferences.

Guests are welcomed to hire our:

  • dining area (seats 170),

  • lounge area (seats 60),

  • activity/recreation room (seats 40) or

  • theatre/conference room (seats 50)

Rooms can be set up with a data projector and screen, whiteboards and additional seating and tables.  

During breaks in programs or free time, groups can use our outdoor and indoor recreation facilities.

Falls Creek Cross Country (DURING WINTER PERIOD)

Howmans Gap Alpine Centre also manages the Falls Creek Cross Country at Winder corner. This is a day use ski facility that does not offer any accommodation options.

Special ski and snow play packages are available to Howmans Gap Alpine Centre guests so please enquire when you book your stay or refer to the Falls Creek Nordic Centre.

Parking, supervision, activities and valuables 

  • With prior notice, your group can schedule specialist-facilitated activities. See the activities page for more information.

  • Ample parking is available on site for both cars and busses, accessible via the main entrance.

  • We have a Duty Manager on call 24-hours a day, however for school groups we recommend that you have one leader or teacher to every 10 individuals in your group.

  • While our camp is a safe and respectful place, we recommend you leave valuables at home.
