We offer a mix of adventure-based activities designed to encourage participants to develop interpersonal, communication and teamwork skills.
Howmans Gap is the perfect base for single and multi-day hikes. Ranging from a quick walk down to the Rocky Valley Creek to a 32km return trip to Mt Cope, we offer a spectrum of amazing walks that will suit beginners through to experts. Participants can walk to Wallace’s Hut and other picturesque locations around Falls Creek.
Located undercover, our climbing wall offers a range of climbs with graded difficulties. This allows participants to experiment with their own strength, skill, stamina and confidence. Those feeling bold can even experiment with our exciting overhang – sure to offer a hearty challenge to the boldest amongst us!
While climbers are busy climbing, other group members are supervised in the appropriate techniques to manage the safety ropes.
Howmans Gap maintains a fleet of mountain bikes and has specialised instructors trained in the delivery of safe mountain bike programs. Introductory rides are offered around the grounds of Howmans Gap or more advanced groups can access the purpose-built trails and roads of Falls Creek. The joy of riding on the hard roads is closely matched by the magnificence of the High Plains vistas.
Adrenaline and teamwork combine on this thrilling activity. The giant swing is completed on cables strung between two purpose-installed poles on the grassy surrounds of Howmans Gap. This activity sees participants winched upward by fellow teammates to a height of their choice. Once ready to go, they pull the cord and the real fun begins!
This 18-metre high multi-element ropes activity provides a tangible experiment for climber strength, balance and trust. At the same time, those on the course get to experience a unique vista amongst the beauty of the Alpine Ash.
The challenge trail invites participants on a journey of activities designed to help them support their fellow group members, problem solve and experiment with balance. The activities include low cables, stream crossings and swings – all done amongst alpine ash.
Catwalk and multi-vines
Typically used as extension activities for the Vertical Challenge, the catwalk and multi-vine high-ropes elements are breathtakingly high and offer a real sense of a treetop adventure. This activity is a great way to share a habitat amongst the birds!
Get your Robin Hood on! A long-time favourite by campers, archery provides an opportunity to rekindle long-forgotten childhood skills of shooting arrows! Archers are offered clear instruction in the safe use of bows and arrows and given ample opportunity to improve the accuracy of ‘shots.’
