Bringing the camping experience right to your school!

Mt Evelyn is taking the camping experience to schools with our first pilot program running with our friends at Mernda Central College on October 27th. With a group of 30 students, 27 parents, 5 teachers and 4 YMCA staff members, we spent the night camping (in tents) under the stars of the school grounds. The event was filled with lots of fun games, free play, delicious dinner, and of course- roasted marshmallows! When the kids went to bed, the parents and teachers spent the evening sharing stories around the crackling campfire. For many of the participants, this was their first camping experience.

For those brand new to camping, the YMCA were able to help campers become more experienced by supplying 3x man tents which the facilitators and campers assembled together.


How can your school get involved?

We are excited to be working with schools from across the Yarra Ranges and beyond to facilitate fun and educational camping experiences in the school setting.

Mt Evelyn Recreation Camp works with the school to personalise the program to ensure an engaging experience for all ages. Each program coordinator can work together with the school to tailor a menu and supply dinner by our experienced cooks, appropriate programming facilitated by our programmers and supply of tents and sleeping mats where required.

We aim to make this an affordable program for families with pricing starting from $25 per person including dinner, programming and campfire fun with an additional $12 for tent hire and $5 per sleeping mat.

FAQS about Camps to Schools

What days does this program run?

We generally run these programs on Fridays evenings, starting at 5 pm and finishing on Saturday at 10 am after breakfast.

What if we don’t have tents?

This doesn’t matter, we can supply 3x man waterproof tents at $12 per tent and we will help you assemble these so that you can become an experienced camper by the end of the weekend.

What are the minimum numbers required to run the program?

For us to facilitate the program, we require a minimum of 15 families to participate

What should we bring with us on the campout?

Tent, sleeping mat, sleeping bag or bedding, pillows, camping chairs, weather appropriate clothing (it can get cool at night) and most importantly a sense of fun and adventure!

Can you personalise our menu?

At camp we are used to catering to all diet requirements, we are happy to work with your school to develop our menu to suit the campers

What activities are included?

Our programmers are experienced in facilitating fun activities for a wide range of ages. No matter whether our campers are preppies or grade 6, we will design fun and engaging programming around their age and ability.

What ages do you cater to?

We can design a camp out for ages ranging from prep through to year 12. 

Can older siblings or kids that don’t attend the school come?

This is completely up to the school's discretion.
