Surf’s up! With private access to the YCW Beach we offer a multitude of water-based activities facilitated by qualified camp staff.
Learn to surf
Conducted on the YCW beach, our surf lessons can be tailored to all groups and abilities. Participants are introduced to surfing with an on-land workshop before moving into the water for the real fun! YMCA instructors encourage and coach participants every step of the way.
Learn to body board
Body boarding is a great starting point to introduce participants to the surf beach environment. Like our surfing activity, participants are given an on-land body-boarding workshop before moving into the water. YMCA instructors coach and encourage participants every step of the way.
Open Water Learning Experience (OWLE)
Our educators are trained to facilitate Life Saving Victoria’s Open Water Learning Program. This program is designed to teach participants how to be safe in open water environments. All participants receive a certificate of completion at the conclusion of the camp.
Starting at the YCW beach, participants venture along the sand and rock pools to Smith Beach and make their way to Express Point, a high southern landmark overlooking the Bass Strait.
YCW beach is home to two very prominent reef systems and at low-tide participants can explore the diverse marine life that calls this beach home! This activity is the perfect opportunity to learn about the intertidal zone, predator/prey relationships, natural selection and how to care for our fragile ecosystems on the coast.
Subject to weather conditions, participants can snorkel in and around the rock pools at YCW beach or visit other parts of Phillip Island to experience a variety of different marine sanctuaries. Participants will be briefed on how to breathe through a snorkel, clear their mask and walk in flippers.
This activity allows participants to use their imagination to create their own sand sculptures.
There is a beach volleyball court located on site, which provides endless fun for participants while at camp.
