Phillip Island Coastal Discovery Camp is situated on the southern coast of Phillip Island, two hours from Melbourne. The island has almost 100kms of coastline and the camp is cosily nestled amongst tea tree scrub and coastal cliffs.
Boasting its own distinct character, Phillip Island is full of things to do – from trekking along the beautiful coastline to checking out the diverse wildlife.
The camp is well located to take advantage of everything the area has to offer including:
Phillip Island Nature Parks
Visit the famous Phillip Island Penguin Parade, Koala Conservation Park and Churchill Island Heritage Farm. Ranger guided tours and talks are available upon request.
Midday pelican feeding
Pelicans are fed scraps from the fishing boats everyday at midday outside the fisherman’s coop at San Remo. An informative talk is held for those who stop by.
Walk the coastal loop track to the highest point on the island with views over the Bass Strait, San Remo and Phillip Island. Between September and April witness thousands of the Short-Tailed Shearwater birds returning to their burrows at sunset.
A short walk through coastal bushland brings you out onto Swan Lake where you can sit in Bird Hides and observe the behavior of a diverse collection of water birds.
Walk the cliff top boardwalk with views of Seal Rocks, seagull rookeries and sometimes young penguins poking their heads out of burrows. Inside the visitor centre browse some excellent educational displays with information about the wildlife in Westernport Bay and the history of Phillip Island.
Rhyll Inlet and Wetlands trail
This boardwalk begins at the Rhyll lookout and takes you past all kinds of migratory wading birds to finish at the Oswin Roberts Reserve where you might even spot some Koalas.
