Weekend Escape

 Leigh + Stephen

We all need to escape sometimes. It helps us to relax, have fun and recharge our batteries. YMCA Weekend Escape aims to do just this by providing weekend residential camps for adults with a disability

It gives participants the opportunity to meet new people and enjoy camp-based indoor and outdoor activities. Families can also enjoy peace of mind that their family member is having a great time with trained dedicated volunteers who are ready to help participants to try the activities of their choice.

Who is eligible?

Adults aged 16 and over with an intellectual disability with low to medium support needs; that is, do not need personal care but may need prompting.

Groups from Community Residential Units, Supported Residential Services or Adult Training and Support Services (with support staff) are also invited to attend.

Carers are welcomed, however staff ratios are generally one staff member to six campers.

What happens on camp?

As well as camp activities such as the giant swing, beach activities and fishing, volunteers theme each camp with past themes including spring carnival, disco, and masquerade.

Campers are encouraged to participate in all activities, yet if alone time is required, reading a book is welcomed.
